Federal funding has been authorized for the remedial repair of Chambers Creek Floodwater Retarding Structure Site No. 24. Structure Site No. 24 is a single-purpose earthen, flood prevention dam built in 1975 and located approximately 4 miles southeast of Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. Site 24 has experienced numerous slope failures on the downstream slope and damage to the fence along the downstream toe. The repair consists of excavating and removing material behind all slide areas; maintaining the upstream and downstream slopes of 2.5:1 with lime treated materials and reconstructing the downstream crossing berm. Barbed wire fences needing to be removed for the construction will be removed and replaced around the structure. The major items of work consist of: preparing the access road and campsite, removing fences from the work area, stripping and stockpiling the topsoil from the embankment and lime processing area, excavating the embankment slopes, backfilling the embankment slopes with lime-treated earthfill, placing topsoil 1-foot thick normal to the slopes over the lime-treated earthfill, and vegetating all disturbed areas. The lime will be added to and mixed with the earthfill material in the designated processing area. The approximate repair quantities consist of 9,493 cubic yards of excavation; 500 cubic yards of site preparation; 468 tons of lime; 7,874 cubic yards of lime-treated earthfill; 21,545 square yards of topsoil; 638 linear feet of barbed wire fence; 1,760 feet of sediment fence, and 4.6 acres of vegetation. Estimated Price Range: $600,000 - $800,000 Performance Time to be allowed for completion of contract is 123 calendar days. (Holidays and weather days not included.)
