The work to be performed consists, in general, of paving hot mix asphalt and painting traffic stripes and thermoplastic pavement markings. County may, but is not required to, send written notice to Contractor. Contractor's working days shall begin thirteen (13) calendar days after the date the agreement has been executed by County. Contractor shall begin work within fifteen (15) calendar days after the date said working days begin and shall diligently prosecute the same to completion before the expiration of 30 working days. If the project is $5,000,000 or over, the successful bidder shall furnish a Performance Bond and a Payment Bond each in a sum equal to at least 50% of the contract price. If the project is under $5,000,000, these bonds shall be 100% of the contract price, generally following Civil Code Section 3248. Said bonds must be on the form provided by the Public Works Department and approved by the Kern County Counsel, in conformance with California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.010 et seq, and shall be properly filled out and executed. A bond shall be executed by two or more sufficient personal sureties or by one admitted surety insurer or by any combination of sufficient personal sureties and admitted surety insurers.
