Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a civil project in Huntsville, Texas. Design plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; road / highway; and road / highway.
Segment 2A is a proposed 4.4-mile-long project in the city limits of Huntsville from 0.3 miles north of SH 19 to 0.9 miles north of SH 30. It would widen I-45 from four to six lanes and would include reconstruction and realignment of the main lanes and ramps; improving drainage structures and bridges; and improvements to frontage roads, crossroads adjacent to new ramps, and interchanges. The project also includes adding collector-distributor roads, which is a road that parallels and connects the main travel lanes and frontage roads. As of January 2024, the project has been delayed. The project is in design and requires funding. The project is expected to bid to contractors in February 2028. Information regarding contractor bidding and construction have not been disclosed.
