Renovation of a water / sewer project in Traverse City, Michigan. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.

UPDATE :This project was originally included with CIP project number 970 TCRWWTP - PLC Upgrade. The project was split to complete the replacement of the non-membrane system PLC's in 2023/2024. This project will complete the full replacement of treatment PLC's by replacing the membrane system PLC's. The membrane PLC's are critical to the function of the membrane treatment system and are reaching the end of their useful life, reaching over 20 years old by time of project completion. The PLC's are the nerves of the treatment plant that receive data from different monitoring devices (nerve endings) and communicate it to the SCADA (the brain of the plant) so that automated functions are modified to meet the current plant conditions, and initiate alarms to notify staff there is an abnormal condition present. This project would ensure that the PLC's in the plant are well-supported and thus able to be maintainedDATE : This project was originally included with CIP project number 970 TCRWWTP - PLC Upgrade. This project will focus on enhancing treatment efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations. The effort will include upgrades to outdated screening systems that lack redundancy and capacity and inadequate grit separators unable to balance the flow of water at peak levels. The project also calls for replacing a failing UV disinfection system that will be elevated to prevent damage during high-water events. These upgrades are essential to ensure the plant’s continued functionality and ability to meet environmental standards. The city also plans to improve preliminary treatment areas to reduce the amount of grit and particles making it downstream to the later treatment areas. _________________________________________________ Upgrade PLC (Programmable Logic Controls) to maintain current plant functionality. Contains 12 PLCs and includes adding additional processors to allow membrane trains to operate on their own processor. As of April 6, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2022-2027 CIP. Information regarding a design team and the contractor selection has not been disclosed. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
