Renovation of a water / sewer project in Lawrence, Kansas. Design plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
Plans call to replace major motor control centers and upgrade electrical equipment, including transferring from city-owned transformers to ones owned by utilities. The facility will be converted from aeration to a biological nutrient removal treatment process and converting existing tanks to the new process. As part of the project to modernize the entire system, a new supervisory control and data acquisition, or SCADA, facility will be a built. It will have a new fiber loop that will help staffers monitor any system challenges more efficiently, A chlorine contact basin will be converted to a new ultraviolet facility that will use a different disinfectant process that is more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The current standards, along with valve replacements, according to the release. As of November 10, 2022, the preconstruction stage is underway. The construction anticipated to begin in May 2023 with completion date of Fall 2026; however, the firm timelines have not been identified.
