Site work and paving for a road / highway in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
As of January 14, 2022, construction has been completed. Contract Description: The stabilization and mitigation of the two landslides occurring along the low (south-bound travel lane) of Hillside Avenue. Each of the two landslides are approximately 100 feet long (at road) and are approximately 100 feet apart. The approximate center of the initial landslide is located approximately 600 feet north of the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Broadway Boulevard. The second landslide located approximately 750 feet north of the same intersection. This project entails stabilization and roadway restoration with an engineered repair system having a design-life of 75 years and following the local standard of care for engineering design of such systems. Preliminarily we anticipate the remedial system could include soil nails, rock anchors, shotcrete or high-strength mesh facing, micropiles, geosynthetically confined soil wall (GCS), soldier beam & lagging (SBL) walls. However, any properly engineered system meeting the minimum goals (or better) outlined in the contract documents may be approved at the discretion of Garvin Boward Beitko Engineering, Inc. and the Borough. As a minimum, the design/build contractor (DBC) must reconstruct the shoulder of Hillside Avenue to the minimum widths necessary to replace pavement width, in-kind, and install curbing/guiderail as appropriate. The pavement in the south-bound lane, above the landsides, shall be replaced as indicated on the contract documents. The Owner anticipates the stabilization will include a combination of soil nailing and potential micropile/GCS structure. However, other suggested remedial approaches (soldier beam & concrete lagging, etc.) will be considered, albeit with heightened critical review. The Issuing Office for the Bidding Documents is: Garvin Boward Beitko Engineering, Inc. (GBBE), 180 Bilmar Drive, Suite 4, Pittsburgh, PA 15205, Telephone No. (412) 922-4440. Prospective Bidders may examine the Bidding Documents at the Issuing Office on Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.Copies of the Contract Documents can be mailed (regular U.S. Mail) to prospective Bidders upon receipt of the $100.00 non-refundable deposit plus a $20.00 mailing fee. Bid security including a performance bond, labor and material payment bond, and bid bond shall be furnished in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. The Owner reserves the right, without limitation, to reject any or all Bids, including, nonconforming, nonresponsive, unbalanced, or conditional Bids. Owner also reserves the right to waive all minor informalities not involving price, time, or changes in the Work. Only documents obtained directly from the Engineer will be valid at bid opening. Compliance is required with the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Act. Bidders for this project will be required to comply with the Provisions of the Public Works Employment Verification Act (PWEVA). No bid or any part thereof shall be withdrawn by Bidder for a period of ninety days subsequent to the Bid Opening. The right is reserved by the Owner to reject any or all Bids or part of bids and to waive technical defects in any Bid.
