Design and construction of a new Child Development Academic Facility. a one-story building located immediately west of the existing Child Development Center on the Los Angeles Pierce College campus. The new building, housing Pierce College's Child Development and Early Childhood Education Program, contains five classroom/laboratory spaces; departmental offices; a meeting room; a computer lab; and program and building support spaces. The location on campus is ideal in that access to the adjacent Child Development Center provides the CDAF students access to real-life teaching situations with children, either through observation or through hands-on experience. A sustainable facility, the project will achieve a minimum rating of LEED-certified. Existing instructional and administrative spaces for the Child Development program at Pierce currently reside within existing modular buildings located at the northeast portion of the campus. The intent of this project is to consolidate departmental, office, and instructional space in a modern building adjacent to the existing operating Child Development Center located on the northwest of the campus. Site work will include accessible parking, passenger loading areas, emergency access, delivery access, site lighting, accessible paths of travel on the site tying in to the campus-wide accessible path of travel, landscaping and irrigation, site security, perimeter fencing, and site-specific storm water drainage and management in compliance with MS4 requirements. The new building will connect to existing chilled water systems. The Programming, Criteria and Schematic Design bridging documents will define the project scope.
