The goal of the project is to provide long-term repairs to the 1950's era rebar reinforced concrete Radar Tower, which will allow for the re-opening of the area immediately surrounding the structure to public access. Recent assessments of the structure have identified needed repairs to address roof integrity issues, water and wildlife intrusion, site safety, the presence of hazardous materials, and spalling concrete and deteriorating rebar. The goal of the Repair Project is to complete long-term repairs to address the identified issues, which will allow for the re-opening of the summit area immediately adjacent to the Radar Tower to public access. The project scope of work includes: Concrete & Rebar Repair Hazardous Materials Abatement Installation of Safety Improvements Installation of New Single-Ply Roof Installation of Passive Ventilation System Installation of New Exterior Drainage System Application of Elastomeric and Anti-Graffiti Coatings Demolition & Debris Removal General A or B and a HAZ General Contractor license required. The project site is directly accessible via Mt. Umunhum Road that connects to the greater San Jose urban area via Highway 85/Camden Avenue and Hicks Road. Award of Contract is anticipated to occur on March 10, 2021 . On site activities cannot commence until the contractor has obtained all requisite permits and complied with all pre-construction submittal requirements.
