The project will renovate an existing 1,700 SF space within the Science building at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff Headquarters complex to create a new DNA Laboratory. The project will be delivered using a design-bid-build approach. As of February 2023, construction is complete. Closed solicitation has been included below for reference. ................ DNA analysis has evolved rapidly over the past 20 years and the needs of Santa Cruz County have changed.DNA analysis has become more sensitive and we have the potential tosolve more crimes than ever before.The Santa CruzSheriff's Office currently outsources DNA analysis to the California State Department of Justice DNA Laboratory and private forensic laboratories. Outsourcing is not uncommon and otherarea municipalities and counties have also adopted this strategy in order to gain more control over the prioritization of their cases.Unfortunately, this creates competition on a limited resource,even within the private sector.As aresult, the numberof samples we can have analyzedare limited and delays over 2 years are not uncommon.However, the potential to rapidly solve more crime in Santa Cruz County is possible.With the support of numerous revenue streams, the DNA Laboratory projectwill be fully funded. The estimated TotalProject Value is $2.9million. The Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office invites qualified Design Consultants to continue reading the content of this Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Our goal is to develop the right Team to craft the available 1,700sf (+/) space into a highly specialized DNA Laboratory. The County reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to take any of the following actions at any time: cancel the RFQ or modify and re-issue the RFQ. False, incomplete, misleading, or unresponsive statements in a response may be enough to cause rejection. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
