Demolition, site work and new construction of a recreation facility in Huron, South Dakota. Completed plans call for the demolition of a 37,000-square-foot recreation facility; and for the construction of a 140,000-square-foot, one-story above grade recreation facility.
The South Dakota State Fair plans to construct a new livestock and equestrian complex/arena. The DEX: Dakota Events Complex will be located where the former Open Class Beef Complex was located, as well as where the current Open Class Sheep Barn is located. All utilities are located around the current site and some existing utilities will need to be relocated as necessary. The arena will have 5,000 seats for spectators, the capacity to host two full size equestrian arenas, or 1,700 plus cattle stalls, larger livestock shows, concerts, auto thrill shows, and events. The arena will be heated year round and will include a ventilation system. As of April 11, 2022, all three bid packages were let and awards for subcontractors are pending. Construction will start in April of 2022 and is expected to be complete in July of 2023.
