The first round of renovations will prepare the building to house city operations and the Yorkville Police Department. The bid package approved on Tuesday is for $5.8 million. City Administrator Bart Olson says the renovation includes improvements to the building both inside and out. Lite Construction, the company handling the renovation, is based in Montgomery. The city council also approved the purchase of furniture for the building from a Canada-based company for about $426,000. Olson says work will begin soon. Olson says he's not sure when the new building will be ready for city workers to move in. The city purchased the building at 651 Prairie Pointe Drive in 2020 for $1.9 million. The city also purchased a lot next to the building, but didn't have an immediate plan for its use. The city borrowed about $8.25 million for the renovation of the building. City officials have said that city hall is bursting at the seams in its current building 800 Game Farm Road.
