As of October 24, 2023, the County's Board of Supervisors has approved the master plan. The purpose of this planning effort is to create a "blueprint" for the County's Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and future developers that proposes traffic pattern improvements, infrastructure availability and needs (water, sewer, electricity, telephone, fiber, 5G, sidewalks), public services locations (for schools, police, EMS & fire stations, parks and recreation) and zoning modifications and controls that will guide the anticipated growth in this area and position the County to be prepared to fulfill its responsibilities to the public. The areas to be included in the planning effort are located in the Madison Heights area of southern Amherst County, Virginia. Between Business Rt. 29 on the west and the Highway Rt. 29 Bypass on the east; and between Highway Rt. 130 on the north and the James River on the south.
