Deterioration of the Main Street base and sub-base has resulted in severe settlement of both the travel lane and the crosswalks. The existing roadway is showing signs of accelerated deterioration and removal of fine aggregate from the subbase during rain events. This project will remove and replace the brick surface and base courses to return the roadway to a smooth and uniform surface. It may include modification of the curb line and sidewalks. Changes in regulations will require some redesign of this project. The City Council has modified this project description to require that the City Administration take any proposed modification to the existing curb line or sidewalk to the Historic Preservation Commission for its review and to require the City Council's approval of the design before moving ahead with construction. This project is included in the city’s fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program.
