Northern Nye County Hospital District (NNCHD) in Tonopah, Nevada invites 'Criteria Architect for Design Build Services' firms with experience in hospital planning leading to construction, utilizing a Design-Build format, to submit qualifications for a potential green field hospital project in the 35,000 square foot range under consideration by the Northern Nye County Hospital District. Selection of finalists will involve a point driven evaluation of each firm's qualifications and shall include a review of recent criteria document development experience, references, licensure, and other relevant factors. Northern Nye County Hospital District may choose to reject any and all submittals delivered for this invitation for any reason. The overall goal of the project is to replace the old, shuttered facility with a new facility with an operational ability to meet the needs of the local community, surrounding communities and the visitors/travelers to the service area. NNCHD owns the property on which the old NRMC building (approx. 33,000sqft) is located. Additionally, on that property are several ancillary buildings, one of which is a modular clinic that has been recently remodeled by NNCHD to provide for minimal delivery of healthcare. It is important to understand that this area is deemed a 'frontier' community, not even reaching the demographics of what's considered rural. During this effort, the old hospital will need to be demolished and removed. Based on the FCA, the building has various forms of hazardous material, those expected in 1970's construction, that will need to be remediated. The current vision is that the modular clinic will remain after the new construction and be used for supporting spaces. NNCHD anticipates the operation will fall into Critical Access Hospital (CAH) definitions but will reserve any decisions to that end until the analysis and criteria documents indicate that need. Both the local community and surrounding communities are heavily oriented towards the mining industry and support of a nearby military facility. Both of these industries have proven relatively stable over the years and are showing growth. The frontier nature of the area is largely dictated by population but also by distance. The nearest definitive healthcare is approximately three and a half (3.5) hours away driving time. Air transport of critical patients is also currently lacking. There is no aircraft stationed in the area, therefore any air transport is limited by the in-bound flight time. Many anecdotal situations have occurred where individuals have lost their lives during efforts to get to higher levels of care. Due to these distance related issues, the new facility and its operations may need to deliver services that even a rural hospital may not. These communities are desperately waiting for improvement in their healthcare situation. Hence, an accurate analysis of the current and future demographics and needs, mixed with modern understanding of efficient healthcare delivery in an austere environment will be critical to the success of this project.
