Renovation of a municipal facility in Topeka, Kansas. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
This project is for the overall redesign and construction of a large, jury courtroom on the 3rd floor. The project will include removal and possible relocation of the existing judge's bench, removal of the jury box, witness stand and gallery rail; construction of a new platform, judge's bench, jury box, witness stand and gallery rail using Courtroom 4D (Room 403) as the architectural template. Ceiling tiles and light fixtures will be replaced due to age and damage to existing units. Carpet and paint will be updated. New electronic technology features will be installed including audio, visual and recording tools; evidence presentation systems; and video-conferencing capabilities. The included technology will allow the judge to control all technology functions within the courtroom from a single console device on the bench. A new podium will be installed which will assist in integrating all of the technology features in the courtroom. The estimated costs for the design and construction of the project based upon the actual cost of design and construction of courtroom 4D (Room 403) from KBS and TreanorHL is $334,349, inclusive of Cytek Media Systems Incorporated for Audio/Visual and Technology hardware; and the quote from Marshall Furniture for the podium is $3,500. Per KBS Constructors, 15% was added to the original proposal due to increased costs of lumber and steel. This increase is shown in the totals below. The project is included in the county's 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
