Renovation of a museum in Austin, Texas. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 7,525-square-foot museum.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2023. Bidders/Proposers may be required to document efforts to solicit MBE/WBE or DBEs to comply with the City's MBE/WBE ordinance. The Mexic-Arte Museum will have a fully functional multi-story facility of approximately 23,000 square feet with many pertinent attributes including: permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, a first level museum store, event preparation space, load in/out area, ADA accessibility, storage, offices, a library, wood shop, circulation space, reception area, an accessible roof top area usable for events, collection storage, outdoor public art component in collaboration with Art in Public Places, expanded sidewalks, fire detection and suppression, micro-climate controls for varied spaces including temperature and relative humidity, public meeting rooms, exhibition appropriate lighting, and the ability for full assembly occupancy during their events The building must meet standards and comply with guidelines of The American Alliance of Museums (formerly the American Association of Museums). The building must help achieve the characteristic of excellence for U.S. Museums from the American Alliance of Museums. The main facade of the building must be preserved/restored. The CM shall work with the design team, set priorities on the scope of work to reconcile with funding, and work earnestly to recommend scopes which will be achievable by the funding limitations and signed off by the City. Mexic-Arte Museum shall meet the requirements of the Austin City Council Resolution No. 20071129- 045 pertaining to the implementation of sustainable building practices necessary to conserve energy, water and natural resource, promote health and safety, create high quality enduring structures. The Mexic-Arte Museum shall be constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with the United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Therefore, the selected CM shall construct the Mexic-Arte Museum to achieve a Silver certification as defined in the LEED BD+C v4.1 Building Rating System at a minimum. This project includes services for all phases of the project including review of the building program and development of opinions of probable costs and constructability reviews of design documents at preliminary design, 30% design, 60% design, and 90% design phases, and construction and post construction phase services. The CM shall also participate in any presentations to the community during design and construction phases and presentations to boards and commissions if requested. Consistent with all City of Austin bond-funded projects, the project will include a public art component to be delivered under a separate contract by the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program. The CM shall collaborate with the selected AIPP lead artist and the Selected Project Prime Design Consultant in the installation of the AIPP commission artwork. *The list of planholders and/or interested bidders is not being tracked by the stakeholders involved with this project.
