Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Annapolis, Maryland. Conceptual plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.
The site of Weems Whelan playing field was previously a disposal site for incinerator ash. Preliminary studies have been performed to test for contaminants in deeper ash and the surface soil placed on top of that ash. The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is reviewing the data and coordinating efforts for cleanup with the City. Assuming the site remains a playing field, appropriations will be used to perform required monitoring and to design, permit, and place additional soil cover if recommended or required by MDE. This project is included in the city’s fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program. As of August 6, 2024, further details regarding construction and completion timeline have not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
