Stair Replacement to the Pedestrian Bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railway The Town of Abingdon is requesting sealed bids from qualified contractors to reconstruct stairs to the deck of the pedestrian bridge over the Norfolk-Southern Railway. The selection process will follow the requirements of Virginia Code Section 2.2-4300, the Virginia Public Procurement Act. All respondents must conform to the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity requirements and upon request, supply documentation of compliance. Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms are encouraged to participate. STAIR REPLACEMENT TO BRIDGE OVER NORFOLK-SOUTHERN RAILROAD IN ABINGDON, VIRGINIA. The selected Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment and services to reconstruct stairs to the pedestrian bridge over the Norfolk-Southern Railway as detailed in the Structural Design Drawings developed by Thompson & Litton, Inc. All work shall be performed in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Building Code (USBC) and the Virginia Construction Code (VCC). Verify all dimensions, elevations, etc., necessary for the proper construction and alignment of the new portions of the stair structure to the existing bridge structure. Where new work is to be fitted to old work, the Contractor shall check all dimensions and conditions in the field against the design plan prior to the fabrication and erection of any new members; the Contractor shall be responsible for the correctness and fit of the new parts to the old parts. The Contractor shall review the existing drawings and field-verify the size and condition of the existing footings to determine that the footings are adequate to support the new structure prior to the fabrication and erection of any new members. The Contractor shall verify all measurements necessary for proper fabrication and erection of all structural members. Do not determine dimensions by "scaling" off the plans; the Contractor shall accept all risks associated with "scaling" and shall be responsible for all inadequate work resulting therefrom. Questions regarding missing or conflicting dimensions shall be directed, in writing, to the Town Engineer. The Contractor shall fabricate, erect and connect the stairs to the bridge in accordance with the design drawings prepared by T&L. The Contractor shall, during the performance of the work, maintain suitable barricades/barriers/warning signs at the site as may be necessary to protect the public. All work shall be performed without damage to adjacent retained work. Adequate protection of areas nearby work against dust, dirt, and debris accumulation shall be maintained at all times; Any damage caused by the Contractor shall be repaired with approved new material of equivalent quality and appearance at the Contractor's expense. The Contractor shall apply all required coatings, sealants, and finishes. The Contractor shall assure the work area is clean of any debris after work is completed each day.
