The St. Cloud Civic Center opened in 1988 as a 110,000 square foot convention facility. In January 2012 the second phase of a major expansion was completed, bringing the facility to 195,000 square feet. After several years' effort the City secured state bonding support for completion of the project - an $11.56 million parking ramp adjacent to the facility in December 2016. The original building is now 30 years old and requires replacement of some major mechanical elements. In 2019, the City engaged the Apex group to assess and inventory mechanical and structural needs of our community facilities. Major expenditures that are necessary, but not critical, are: Electrical upgrade, including completion of LED lighting conversion - ($600,000), Accessibility upgrades ($350,000), and Replacement of original exterior and The roof and mechanical elements listed above are all well beyond their reasonable life expectancies. The facility is experiencing increasing frequency of repairs, raising the burden on the operating budget. These mechanical elements are all very important to the competitiveness of our convention facility. As December 15, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023 - 2028 CIP. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2024. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
