https://www.ksnblocal4.com/2022/03/22/kearney-council-vote-authorizing-bonds-build-indoor-sports-complex/ Kearney council to vote on authorizing bonds to build indoor sports complex KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The next step for the indoor sports complex happens at Tuesday’s Kearney City Council meeting. Council members will vote to approve an ordinance authorizing the $34 million in bonds for the construction of the complex to be paid back in 20 years. Back in December, Kearney voters approved the issuance of the general obligation bonds to provide long-term financing for the project. Other financing will come from a State Assistance in the form of sales tax turnback as well as the extension of the existing 1% restaurant and drinking place occupation tax to December 31, 2042. Taxes received from these two sources will provide funds to retire the annual principal and interest payments on the GO Bonds. The sports complex is expected to be over 200,000 square feet with space for multiple basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts. It’s also expected to have room for batting cages, a track and field for sports. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The City of Kearney, Nebraska intends to construct a new indoor sports complex (215,000 S.F.) consisting of a court facility large enough for eight basketball courts (which can convert to twelve volleyball courts), indoor turf fieldhouse, four indoor pickleball courts, three lane running/walking track with extra sprint lane, offices, concessions, storage, restrooms, elevators and stairs, maintenance/mechanical area, permanent seating for 3,100 spectators plus portable seating for 300 spectators, and outdoor parking. All questions or requests for information should be directed to Assistant City Manager, Eric Hellriegel at ehellriegel@kearneygov.org. The information provided in the Proposal will be used by the City of Kearney to select the Construction Manager at Risk utilizing criteria issued in the City of Kearney's Political Subdivision Construction Alternatives Act and defined further in the Proposal.
