Although the City of Hamilton is undertaking this project, this project consists of the repair of a pedestrian bridge known as the Valley Inn Bridge #457, which is held in the common ownership of Hamilton and the City of Burlington. The bridge is partially located on lands within both Hamilton and Burlington, and Hamilton is proceeding with this project with the consent of the City of Burlington. The Work consists of replacing Bridge 457-Valley Inn located 535 metres east of York Boulevard at the boundary of the City of Hamilton and the City of Burlington. The Work includes but is not limited to: - Protect the existing stone abutments (heritage components); - Remove all trees and brush that have grown into the existing bridge structure; - Remove of the existing Bailey bridge, including wood decking, approach ramps and bearing assemblies complete with their foundation boxes at each end; - Remove the wooden railings and barriers on both sides at each end of the bridge; - Salvage and restore two 3.0 m long modular double truss sections for future use as interpretive monuments; - Disposed remaining steel Bailey bridge; - Construct new engineered fill and concrete pad foundations along with a concrete slab on grade to support the interpretive monuments at each end; - Restore bridge approaches; - Fabricate, deliver to the site install a new steel truss bridge; - Install of new timber deck and wooden railings and barriers. - Deliver to site and install interpretive monuments; and, - Site clean-up and restoration.
