The proposed improvements include increasing the capacity of the existing storm sewer system and adding a stormwater pump station, which will have the ability to isolate the collection system from elevated water levels in the Galveston Ship Channel. This design report has been developed to document and summarize the design considerations. Numerous alternatives were considered in the initial analysis. Based on the completion of the 100% design phase, the recommended solution consists of the following: 15th Street gravity system drainage improvements including reinforced concrete box culverts from Avenue L to Slip 15. 16th Street drainage improvements from Seawall to Ave K. Lateral storm sewer connections to 15th Street from 14th Street and 16th on Ave K, Sealy Ave, Winnie Street, Market Street, and Strand Street, and north of Harborside Drive. Increased inlet capacity at all intersections along 15th Street Stormwater pump station on the north side of Harborside between 15th and 16th Streets on Port of Galveston property with eight (8) submersible electric pumps with an estimated total capacity of 555 CFS, one smaller pump to handle lower flows, and a sump pump for maintenance of the wet well. Two (2) 1000 KW emergency backup generators, associated electrical equipment, diesel fuel storage tank, and fuel supply system. A controls and operations room designed to meet FEMA Safe Room requirements. Elevated transformer pad and diesel fuel tank. Vertical lift gates for diverting flow to the pump station and stoplogs to isolate wet well, outfall basin, and outfall structures for maintenance. Flap gates at the 14th Street and 15th Street outfalls Mechanical trash rakes for automated removal of trash/debris prior to entering the wet well for the pumps. As of March 6, 2025, the project is in 100% Design Complete. A tentative bid schedule for contractors is scheduled for 2026. Further details regarding construction and completion timelines have not been identified. Funding has not been allocated.
