Site work for a water / sewer project in New York, New York. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The Project will provide repairs from Hurricane Sandy to mitigate flood-related losses at Berth 6 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. During Hurricane Sandy, the Berth and Upland area were fully submerged, resulting in subsidence of the fill material, cracking, and spalling of the concrete topping layer and uneven expansion joints. The Project entails the demolition, removal and proper disposal of soil, timber debris, and concrete slab. The area will be excavated down to expose the existing timber deck of the low-level platform and then will be backfilled with new fill. After compaction and leveling, a new 12" concrete slab will be constructed to support the operations and uses of Berth 6. There is no in-water work - all work is on land. Work must also adhere to the Excavation Work Plan outlined in Exhibit J of this IFB. The work to be performed under this contract includes but is not limited to the following: 1. Mobilization and demobilization. 2. Installation of construction facilities and site security fencing/gates as required during construction, and its removal upon completion of construction. 3. Demolition, removal, and disposal of existing structure in its entirety, including all necessary safeguards required to prevent the release of debris into the waterway in strict accordance with applicable permit requirements) including but not limited to the following: (a) Demolition, removal and proper disposal of existing concrete slab, to the extent shown on the Contract Drawings. (b) Removal and proper disposal of excavated fill to the extent shown on the Contract Drawing (c) Removal and proper disposal of existing geotextile fabric (d) Removal and proper disposal of timber debris as shown on the Contract Drawings. 4. The Contractor shall exercise care in the removal of the excavation, stockpiling of excavated soil, and proper disposal of excavated soil. Refer to the Site Management Plan prepared by Core Environmental Consultants (June 29th, 2018) for proper handling of the excavated fill material. 5. Installation of approved backfill and fill, including handling and compaction in accordance with this specification as required to complete the work. 6. Supply and install geotextile fabric. 7. Supply and place cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck slab.
