Demolition, renovation and addition to a laboratory facility in Lansing, Michigan. Completed plans call for the addition of a 19,800-square-foot, two-story above grade laboratory facility; for the demolition of a laboratory facility; and for the renovation of a 5,300-square-foot laboratory facility.

The State Lab is a 130,000 SF building constructed in the early 1990s containing laboratory and office space for state agencies. This project will focus on providing improvements to areas utilized by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The approximate scope will include a 19,800 SF two story addition at the south end of the building, a 700 SF addition at the north end, 5,300 SF of renovated space within the existing building, and the associated infrastructure and site improvements. Bid Package 3 is the interior build out and MEP for the two story addition as well as the existing building renovation and existing entry infill. This bid package consists of the exterior landscaping package, all general trades demo for renovation work including temporary protections, all new work plastic laminate cabinets and countertops, all laboratory casework and specialty accessories, interior light gauge metal stud framing, insulation, drywall, and ceilings, interior tile, sheet floor, painting, fire suppression, combined mechanical and plumbing, and electrical systems work. The ongoing phase 1 parking lot relocation for employees from Bid Package 1 is wrapping up to allow for employees of the building to be relocated and the construction zone established around the planned addition on the south side of the site to begin Bid Package 2 foundations and structural steel. Once all utilities are relocated under the building addition the footings and foundation walls will be installed starting late in 2021. The structure of the addition is planned to be dried in by early summer 2022 for a substantial completion in November/December of 2022 which allows for the existing lab interior renovations to begin after owner occupancy of the addition.
