The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: 530 CY of topsoil, 562 CY of class 10, 12 or 13 excavation, 2,755 SY of subgrade preparation, 67 LF of 15 RCP storm sewer, 290 SY pavement removal, 44 LF of PCC curb and gutter, 2,438 SY 6 PCC pavement, 128 SY PCC sidewalk, 1 Storm Sewer Intake, 2 storm sewer manholes, 422 LF of 2PVC conduit, 80 LF of 4 PVC Conduit and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. The city manager shall announce the results of the bidding, together with recommendations thereon, to the City Council at its meeting to be held at 6:00 PM local time on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, Ames, Iowa, at which time and place the City Council will hear objections to the proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract for said City Hall Parking Lot Expansion. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving The City of Ames Public Works Department is the only authorized source of bidding documents and proposal forms. Bidding documents and proposal forms obtained from any other source may have an incomplete set of documents. Bidders using bidding documents and/or proposal forms not obtained from the City of Ames Public Works Department are advised to contact the City of Ames Public Works Department to provide a contact name, mailing address, and phone number to enable receipt of necessary addenda. Reproduction of these documents without the express permission of the City of Ames is prohibited. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Parking lot shall be open for use by June 1, 2022. All remaining work to be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of October 1, 2022. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed.
