Upgrades to Centennial Park that will focus in the southern area of the heart of the park - bound by the Rathburn Drive, Elmcrest Road, Renforth Creek and south of the City of Toronto Maintenance Yard. There will be 3 sub-projects: district plays and water play, accessible pathways and connections, and parking lot off of Elmcrest Road. Project includes a new district playground, new waterplay (splash pad / wading pool conversion), accessible pathway, explore pedestrian connectivity options through the area identified as the "Heart of the Park" Lighting improvement, drinking fountains (bottle fillers), site furnishings, seating and picnic area, indigenous place-making through consistent design elements and design language, trees, lawns and horticulture. Project may also include a new skate trail, baseball hub, cricket pitches and pickle ball courts as well as improvements to the trail network. There will also be a large outdoor public plaza where family and friends can gather. A new soccer hub is planned that will include 6 new soccer fields, a bubbled training site and a new fieldhouse with a year-round washroom. There will also be sustainable features. TIMELINE: A Master Plan for the site has been completed for long-term planning; scope continues to evolve. Tenders will be phased pending Capital Budget scheduling as well as owner's decision to proceed. The city has outlined strategies that will be implemented over the course of 20 years.
