Description

Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in San Bernardino, California. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 60,000-square-foot laboratory facility; and for site work for a laboratory facility.

This project will construct a new 58,800 ASF/98,000 GSF Interdisciplinary Science Laboratory building (#69) at a vacant site immediately west of the existing Chemical Sciences (#37). This new facility will include Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, and Physics teaching laboratories and graduate research space. This project will also further consolidate the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) by relocating and expanding the Computer Science and Engineering department, CNS administrative spaces, and STEM Success Center. This project is expected to provide an additional 211 FTE in teaching lab capacity. The existing space vacated by CNS will be repurposed to accommodate future campus growth. This Project is in included in the city's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Per the owner, this project has not been funded, nor has design started. The university does not anticipate any prospect of funding for many years.
