Renovation of a detention facility in Memphis, Tennessee. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.
The existing roof on the Jail Annex was installed when building construction was completed in 2002. It is a rubber membrane roof, over tapered insulation, covering a surface area of 52,558 ft2. The existing roof included a 15 year warranty, which expired in 2017. The roof has to be patched and/or repaired numerous times each year due to exposure to extreme weather conditions. Moisture saturation through the roof into the tapered insulation has rendered the roof unrepairable. Damage to the building interior due to roof leaks has become routine. This project provides for the consultant design services and construction services to replace the existing roof with a new system. Financial Impact: Deferring this project will result in continued water damage to interior finishes in the CJC. We have received numerous complaints from the Sheriff's Office because this issue causes relocation of staff and detainees. This project is included in the county's FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program. As of December 5, 2022, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
