Renovation of a residential development in New London, Connecticut. Completed plans call for the renovation of a residential development.
City of New London Connecticut Housing Conservation Program (HCP) 181 State Street New London, CT 06320 Phone (860) 447-5243 Fax (860) 447-7971 On all existing roof areas of the house including porches, completely remove all roof shingles (whatever their type) down to existing strapping and/or sheathing of dwelling and porches. (If needed, furnish and install 1/2", 4' x 8' C.D.X. plyscore nailed with 8d through and penetrating into existing rafters). After applying sheathing (if needed), contractor shall install a waterproofing membrane around bottom edge of rafters and in valleys to protect against water backup and damage from ice. The remainder of sheathing shall be covered with a minimum of #30 lb., felt paper. Contractor shall install new metal drip and rake edge around the perimeter of the roof. Any and all deteriorated or missing woodwork shall be replaced prior to re-shingling. Install new roof vent at ridge: Cut back sheathing 2" on each side of ridge to allow air flow from attic. Install new ridge vent per manufacturer's recommendation and cover with roof cap matching new shingles. Ridge vent should run to roof ends. Roof ends shall be covered with only enough roof shingle to protect roof and shed water without allowing ridge cap to flare up higher than rest of ridge. Apply new step and/or straight aluminum flashing at all intersections whether it be masonry, wood, or other; and all existing flashing will be reset and counter flashed. Furnish and install complete in place a 25 or 30 year fiberglass architectural (layed) shingle on all roof areas. Color and styles of all shingle materials shall be owner-approved from contractor's submittals. City-approved shingles are G.A.F., Bird, Certainteed, or contractor may submit other brands for City approval.
