The proposed contract is for the removal of eastern red cedar trees and other undesirable woody vegetation through mastication and/or hand crew work in and around riparian areas on Black Kettle Wildlife Management Area. Masticate all trees within 75 feet radius out from all cottonwood trees, except if marked as leave trees. Masticated material will average no more than 2-6" in depth on the ground. Leave trees, other than those specified below, will be marked at diameter breast height, and announced prior to the beginning of work. Trees to be masticated will be all evergreens, Russian olives and salt cedars that occurs within the entire designated unit, and deciduous fruiting species such as net leaf hackberry, rough-leaf dogwood, bumelia, western soapberry and American elm in units as described above with the diameter breast height of less than 6". Hand crew work with chain saws may be required in some terrain and tree density situations with lop and scatter permitted for slash, not to exceed a vertical above ground level height of 18" and length of pieces not to exceed 24". All work will be done as directed by the ODWC area biologist/project manager.
