However, at last week's city council work session meeting, Mayor Robert Craft announced that the city has recently decided to retrofit the former Sacred Heart hospital building with the justice center, instead of building a new facility. According to Craft, after the city received bids in December 2023 for a new building, all of the bids came in significantly over-budget, prompting the city to change course. "It came in significantly over budget, and in an effort to get something done quickly we are working with the same architect that designed that building to retrofit the Sacred Heart building that we bought and we own, and put that in the same position we were planning on the other," Craft said. "Just move it to a site where we don't have to build a building and we take advantage of a building we already own."
