This project is included in the City of Delaware's fiscal years 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of December 6, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. A detailed scope has not yet been released. The existing underground fuel storage tanks and distribution system is approaching the end of its anticipated 30-year useful life. In 2021, corrosion and suspended particles were identified in the general aviation 100 LL fuel tank resulting in the shutting down of the fuel dispensing system while the cause was investigated. Inspection revealed deteriorated interior components that must be replaced to put the system back into temporary operation. Even with repairs, the system must be replaced to avoid additional fuel system disruptions. Because both the 100 LL and Jet A fuel systems were installed at the same time and in identical tanks/components, it is anticipated the Jet A fuel tank and appurtenances are also subject to the same deterioration and must also be replaced. Proposed is the decommissioning of the existing fuel storage/delivery system following construction of a new elevated fuel dispensing system like the one depicted in the image. The project could be a design/build initiative for expediency and to utilize the expertise available through the fuel dispensing equipment design, fabrication, and installation community. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
