This project constructs a new electrical substation on the west side of Dallas Road. The City purchased approximately 2 acres of land specifically for the substation adjacent to I-82 and constructed the 115kV transmission line interconnecting to BPA's system. The Dallas Road Substation will initially consist of one City power transformer, switchgear, and control house structure similar to existing City substations. The substation will provide the capacity to serve the Badger Mountain South area as it continues to grow, as well as interconnection to existing distribution circuits for increased reliability. There is additional substation space for a second transformer and associated equipment if needed to supply future electrical demand. The Dallas Road Substation and associated transmission line is a partnership project with BPA and Benton PUD. The substation has space if Benton PUD needs to co-locate equipment similar to Leslie Road Substation. Additionally, the City's transmission line is planned to be interconnected with BPA at Reata Sub and Benton PUD is planning to extend a transmission line to Sunset Substation. Once interconnected, it will provide a significant regional benefit and capacity with a major transmission route from BPA's Red Mountain to BPA's Badger Canyon substations. This project is in included in the City of Richland FY 2022-2027 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
