Renovation of a laboratory facility in Golden, Colorado. Completed plans call for the renovation of a laboratory facility.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), operated and managed by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC. NREL advances the science and engineering of energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable power technologies and provides the knowledge to integrate and optimize energy systems. Located in the foothills of Golden, Colorado, NREL is the only federal laboratory dedicated to the research, development, commercialization, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. This project is to replace the two chemical feed cabinets in Science and Technology Facility (S&TF) and connect them back into the existing process. These cabinets provide Sodium Hydroxide and Sulfuric Acid to the three scrubbers and the automatic waste neutralization tanks. Original design of the Process Development and Integration Laboratory (PDIL) Cleanroom automated waste neutralization (AWN) system was to operate 24/7, however the need of the research requires an intermittent operation. As a result, the delivery components and building automation system (BAS) controls will be updated by NREL. The chemical feed cabinets shall have a standalone programmable logic controller (PLC) that will interface with the BAS. This project will require Vendor and Construction services to provide for replacement of the two chemical feed cabinets and delivery component, programming, and controls of the S&TF chemical delivery system to the AWN that meets the requirements provided in Exhibit A and B. This subcontract will also provide a pump cart as detailed in Exhibit A and B. Subcontractor must have successfully completed similar chemical feed secondary containment automated waste neutralization projects in the past five years. Equipment vendor shall have available support within the United States of America. Location: Offerors shall have a bona-fide office located within 100 miles or shall be able to demonstrate their capability to perform in these areas: National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) South Table Mountain Campus (STM) 15013 Denver West Parkway Golden, CO 80401 and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Flatirons Campus (FC) 19001 W. 119th Avenue Arvada, CO 80007 Other Requirements: No contract award will be made to any contractor that is not registered or in the process of registering with the System for Award Management (SAM). Please visit the SAM website at https://sam.gov/content/entity-registration for instructions on how to register. 1. PROVIDE A DESIGN TO REPLACE THE DELIVERY COMPONENTS OF THE ACID WASTE NEUTRALIZATION (AWN) SYSTEM WITH TWO NEW CABINETS, ONE FOR SULFURIC ACID AND ONE FOR SODIUM HYDROXIDE. 2. NEW SYSTEM TO PROVIDE INTERMITTENT OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM. 3. PREVENT FREEZING OF THE SODIUM HYDROXIDE PIPING AND COMPONENTS. 4. NEW COMPONENTS WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH 95% SULFURIC ACID AND SODIUM HYDROXIDE AS APPROPRIATE TO THE RESPECTIVE SYSTEMS. 5. CONTROLS FOR THE NEW SYSTEM WILL BE TIED TO THE BAS. 6. SECONDARY CONTAINMENT IS PROVIDED VIA THE CABINETS AND IS DESIGNED TO 1.5 TIMES THE DRUM CAPACITY. 7. ADD ALTERNATE: PROVIDE TWO ADDITIONAL CABINETS OF SIMILAR CONSTRUCTION TO THE ABOVE FOR NREL USE. Technical questions are due by 3/23/2022 by 5:00 P.M. MST
