The scope of work for this project shall consist of permanently patching potholes, longitudinal joints, and cracks too large to be able to be sealed. The method used shall be one of these three options: spray patching, mill/saw cut & fill, or infrared repair. Spray patching technology uses four steps to achieve durable permanent repairs: 1) Clean - use high volume low pressure air (with mechanical methods as necessary) to clean the patch of debris, 2) Tack - prep the patch with a coating of emulsion, 3) Fill - inject emulsion coated aggregate and fill pothole, and 4) Compact - achieve density on the patch and open to traffic. Mill or saw cutting & fill uses a mill machine or saw to cut the pavement and equipment to remove the degraded material. HMA is then used to fill the void and is compacted with a roller to achieve density. Infrared repair uses infrared equipment to heat the existing asphalt to a workable temperature, adds rejuvenate and HMA as required, and then is leveled and compacted to achieve density. The Contractor shall use quality material for method(s) chosen as a part of this contract. The contract and work shall be carried out in conformance with the equipment manufacturer's recommendations, MDOT Standard Specifications for Construction, special provisions included in the contract documentation, and Ordinances of the City of Kalamazoo in effect on the date of invitation for bids. No bid will be considered unless it is accompanied by the required guarantee. The bid guarantee shall ensure the execution of the bid and award, and the furnishing of a performance bond and a labor and material bond (A and B below) by the successful bidder. (Contractors Note: A cashier's or certified check in lieu of a bid bond is NOT acceptable.) The bidder shall have all work completed by October 1, 2022. Liquidated Damages will be assessed per Section 108.10C of the MDOT Standard Specifications for Construction.
