a) The scope of work shall be covered under a single provider per acre contract for Sacramento County owned natural and open space areas with the primary purpose of reducing fire hazards as specified in this RFP. b) The Contractor(s) shall furnish all labor, material, equipment, and services necessary to provide managed livestock grazing services for the natural and open space areas located within Sacramento County according to the scope of services outlined in this RFP and shall be provided as requested by Regional Parks. c) The areas grazed should be scheduled to accomplish the goal of reducing fire hazards with one pass just prior to annual grasses sensing. It is acknowledged that the timing is weather dependent but all first pass grazing activities shall be completed by June 30 each year. If necessary a second pass may be requested by Regional Parks at the same per acre cost rate. d) Prior to grazing activities each year the Contractor and Regional Parks shall meet to coordinate planned grazing activities that will include the schedule and location of grazing activities with consideration given to balancing the fire hazard reduction needs and the nutritional need of the animals, as well as any preparation/actions that may be needed in advance of grazing. The contract shall be for a period of three (3) years with two (2) optional one-year extensions to commence in April or May of 2022 with the initial contract expiration set for October 31, 2025. Work performed under the contract(s) shall not occur prior to a notice to proceed by the designated Project Manager. The Grazer shall be a livestock rancher specializing in targeted grazing operations and management of wildlands in California, with at least 5 years of experience with the equipment necessary to mobilize, fence, store, stage and sustain a herd of livestock.
