Renovation of a military facility in Norfolk, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a military facility.
Description of the Work: Building LP-167 is an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar located on Naval Station Norfolk. The 1st increment of LP-167 was constructed in 1969, and the 2nd increment was constructed in 1970. The building is a cantilevered style hangar that allows for a hangar door opening that is unobstructed by intermediate frames or columns. This configuration is achieved by the use of an exposed exterior structural steel frame, called a suspender and tie-back, which supports the cantilevered steel structure. There is a pretensioned adjustable splice connection along each suspender and tie-back member, each consisting of 8 threaded rods. Roofing pitch pockets surround where the exterior structural frame penetrates the roof. Site investigations conducted by NAVFAC in the summer of 2021 discovered significant corrosion with section loss of the threaded rods. The purpose of this executable scope is to provide design and construction services to repair LP-167. *The bid list for this project may be incomplete.
