This project is to demolish and replace two Cooling towers located on the roof of Silver Spring Metro Center 1 (SSMC1). The existing cooling towers are being replaced by new cooling towers selected for energy efficiency and water conservation. The proposed cooling towers are sized to handle the 500-ton calculated peak building cooling load at the design condition. Each tower is provided with a dedicated controller facilitating variable frequency drives and single points of connection. Cooling tower controllers will communicate with the existing Building Automation System (BAS) via BACnet protocol. New horizontal split-case end-suction condenser water pumps with inverter-duty motors and VFDs are provided to replace the original on/standby condenser water pumps in like configuration. Vertical in-line pumps may be provided to increase available floor space in the mechanical room at the cost of additional disruption to existing conditions in the immediate vicinity of installation. This project also includes Modifications to existing support infrastructure including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection components are necessary to facilitate installation of the new cooling towers and pumps. Existing components showing signs of corrosion, oxidation or dilapidation are refurbished or replaced with new, and new coverings were provided to prevent undue degradation in the future. $1-5 Million *The value for this project is based on a financial range.
