Building on the conceptual master plan, the project will require a multidisciplinary technical and creative approach to refine a site and facility program, develop designs and cost estimates, support philanthropic fundraising efforts and produce construction documents. The current anticipated site and facility program elements include: Site improvements: Enhanced vehicular and equipment circulation including relocated parking. o Expanded pedestrian circulation opportunities incorporating paths to support educational activities and connection to the nearby Shaker Trace shared use trail. o Upgrades to site utility infrastructure including electric, water and sewage. o Green infrastructure facilities that address on-site stormwater drainage and Support educational opportunities. o New outdoor amenities that include spaces supporting outdoor education programming and special events. o Improvements to support the operational function of the facility including plant propagation and the use of ponds for conservation projects. o Holistic planning of site improvements that balances development with natural areas and floodplain function. Anew greenhouse: o Modern facility with capacity to support multiple zones & growing phases. o Expanded plant propagation support facilities. o Designed to the applicable code standards for a publicly accessible building. Anew seed processing facility: o Modern facility to support seed processing and storage. o Climate-controlled seed storage. o Operational and safety features built in for equipment use (e.g. ventilation for debearder and equipment operation). o Designed to the applicable code standards for a publicly accessible building. Repurposed existing historic drying barn: o Preliminary structural assessment and renovation feasibility study. o Flexible design to accommodate operational, educational, and special event functions. o Designed to the applicable code standards for a publicly accessible building. o Includes restrooms. o Renovation sensitive to historical qualities of the barn. Other facilities that may be incorporated into the facility programs above or provided in separate buildings: o Staff office space. o Equipment and supply storage. o Additional restrooms. Great Parks of Hamilton County (GPHC) is requesting Letter of Interest submittals from consultants to provide professional design services for the Shaker Trace Seed Nursery Improvements project. The project location is in Miami Whitewater Forest at 8667 New Haven Road, Harrison, Ohio 45030. Any questions prior to the deadline should be submitted in writing by email to Ben Helmes at bhelmes@greatparks.org by March 25, 2022 at 4 pm. Design services will include refinement of GPHC sustainability goals associated with the project and generation of sustainable development certification scenarios based on the programs listed above to guide design development. The design process is anticipated to be conducted in two parts. Part one will consist of program refinement, in-depth site analysis, schematic design of the site and facilities, design development of site and facility plans and delivery of a developed preliminary plan package including cost estimates for site and facility construction and evocative project representations to support philanthropic fund raising. Part two of the design process will involve the production of detailed construction plans, specifications, construction cost estimates, permit support documentation and all other required documents needed to bid and award construction of the improvements. Professional Design Services Scope The scope of work for consulting services will include all site analysis; site and building program development; survey; engineering including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing; architectural design; and landscape architectural design needed to develop and deliver documents for a public construction project. The consultant will also be expected to generate a sustainable development strategy, provide cost estimates at each stage of plan development, support philanthropic fundraising by producing illustrative marketing materials and assist in public engagement. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
