Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in East Freetown, Massachusetts. Design plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
The purpose of this project is to replace the Chace Road Bridge over Route 140. The deck and superstructure are in poor condition. There is deterioration of the precast concrete beam ends and impact damage at several locations due to limited underclearance over Route 140. The substructure has extensive cracking and spalling. Over the next five years. MassDOT expects to invest over $3 billion repairing the Commonwealth’s Bridges. This includes $816 million already programmed in the STIP using BIL’s reauthorization of existing programs, $1.1 billion under BIL’s new Bridge Formula Program, and $1.25 billion in bonding authority under the Commonwealth’s Next Generation Bridge Program.
