Briarwood Subdivision is located in eastern Tallahassee, east of Capital Circle, south of Apalachee Parkway, and north of Old St. Augustine Road. The subdivision consists of small acreage residential properties and is bisected by Lafayette Creek, which is the primary stormwater conveyance within the Paradise Village Watershed of the Lake Lafayette Drainage Basin. The specific project area consists of the portion of Lafayette Creek between Bluebay Lane and the City of Tallahassee Electric Transmission easement. Within the project area, the Creek consists of an incised, natural channel with culvert crossings at Bluebay Lane and the City of Tallahassee Electric Transmission Easement. The existing channel is undersized, in poor condition, with significant channel and bank erosion which presents maintenance difficulties. The project will reduce flooding upstream of Bluebay Lane and reduce the erosion and sedimentation occurring between Bluebay Lane and the City of Tallahassee Electric Transmission Easement by improving the conveyance capacity of the culvert beneath Bluebay Lane and constructing a gabion-lined channel in place of the existing channel.
