Site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Design plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
This project involves replacing two bridges on Route 141 (Appleton Street) where the bridges cross over the First Level and Second Level Canals. The new bridges will be two-span concrete bridges supported by abutments that will be constructed behind the existing canal walls. The existing roadway and sidewalk widths will be maintained. A decorative bridge rail will be installed that is compatible with the proposed Holyoke Canalwalk and the historic character of the area. This requires that a roadway curb rail be used to separate the roadway from the sidewalk and pedestrian rails as the proposed bridge rail is not a crash tested acceptable design. As of July 8, 2022, further derails regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified.
