Saving Project...

Site work for an educational facility in Montreal, Quebec. Completed plans call for site work for a educational facility.

Reference Number : 1595110 Review Title : Removal of Queenston facing stones for the Nouv. Vic at McGill University Submission sent electronically accepted: No The Royal Institution for the Advancement of Science / McGill University (the "University") project aims to redevelop a portion of the original site of the Royal-Victoria Hospital and the buildings located there to house research and teaching laboratories, training rooms, as well as office spaces, to support the teaching and research activities of the University. The project proposes selective demolitions, allowing the site to regain its permeability, openness and accessibility, while connecting to the mountain. To accompany the strategy of replacing these pavilions with new construction, the sustainability strategy must take into account the embodied energy of existing buildings, as best practice in heritage conservation now includes sustainability considerations, and given that the notion of sustainability is at the very heart of the PNVM. Deconstruction activities are being explored in order to allow selective demolition, in order to recover the existing components of the buildings, probably the exterior stone cladding. The limestone of the existing envelope of pavilions M and S (dating from the 1950s) represents a considerable quantity of materials that can be salvaged. McGill University is now studying the best way to determine candidates for the recovery of the 'Queenston' stone from the M&S pavilions. including preparatory work, the project remains subject to the approval of the Business Case by the Government of Quebec and the regulatory framework of the city of Montreal to proceed to the implementation stage. A decision on this Notice of Interest may be made once the required authorizations have been obtained. The removal of the 'Queenston` stone from the M & S pavilions as well as the installation on pallets will be carried out by the future Manager-Builder of the New Vic Project. Building concerned: Former site of the Royal Victoria Hospital 687-835, avenue des Pins Ouest Arrondissement Ville-Marie, Montreal (Quebec) Scheduled date for the project: stone removal would begin: November 2022. The start date of stone removal is subject to change. Please send your responses to the following address: publicbid5.procurement@mcgill.ca.
