As of October 13, 2025, this project is in final planning. An architect and general contractor have both been identified. A timeline for construction has yet to be announced. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Health Sciences Complex (HSC) is composed of eight independent but inter-connected facilities. The facilities that comprise the complex are Cary, Farber, Sherman, Sherman Annex, Farber Annex, South Campus Chemical Storage Facility, Biomedical Research Building (BRB) and the Biomedical Education Building (BEB). Contained throughout these structures are classrooms, wet and dry research laboratories, clinical research laboratories, specialized teaching laboratories, departmental and administrative offices and shared support spaces for all units. In 2018, the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS) opened downtown and vacated approximately 225,000nsf of space in the complex. The reuse of the complex is a key interim component of the implementation of UB's Comprehensive Physical Plan a major component of which we are calling the South Campus Revitalization Plan. This is a multi-phased project will involve improvements to educational, research and teaching spaces, the demolition of buildings, and restoration of landscapes across the campus. This will show a renewed commitment to the surrounding community in the aftermath of the JSMBS's departure. This project will relocate two departments of the School of Public Health & Health Professions (PHHP) from Kimball Tower onto the 2nd floor of Farber. Those departments are Community Health & Health Behavior (CHHB) and Public Health's Information Technology office. This project will also create space for Epidemiology and Environmental Health (EEH) to expand. Anticipated effective start date is 6/6/2022. Anticipated design completion date is 9/30/2022. Construction must be complete on July 7 of 2023.
