As of August 26, 2025, an awarded general contractor has been identified. However, due to the seasonal nature of construction which is limited by sea ice, the typical lead time between contract award and mobilization for large infrastructure projects in Alaska, construction is not expected to start prior to Summer 2026. The Port of Nome Modification Phase 1a, Nome, Alaska, is an Unrestricted, Firm Fixed Price, Design Bid Build, Standalone, Construction acquisition. The Project Will Consist of a 1,200-foot Long Extension to the Existing Nome Causeway Consisting of a Layered Aggregate and Rock Embankment Protected by 18-ton Armor Stone. The Causeway Extension Incorporates a 30-foot Wide Road Surface and Include sa 600-foot Long Open cell Sheet Pile Dock. This Project Includes Removal of the 250-foot Long Spur Breakwater and Existing 22-ton armor Stone and B Rock Underlayer at the Nose of the Causeway. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
