Site work and paving for a road / highway in Tulare, South Dakota. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

Work under this section includes the furnishing of all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and services necessary for construction of the gravel base, asphalt mat, and related incidentals as referenced in the Specifications and/ or shown on the plans. o Bituminous Surfacing will be "Asphalt Concrete Pavement". Measurement and Payment: o The contractor will be paid for tack and asphalt concrete pavement under the bid item "Asphalt Concrete Pavement" at the contract unit price. Payment under this item will include the tack and the composite asphalt mixture including asphalt cement. Products: o Asphalt Concrete: The asphalt concrete shall be composed of a mixture of aggregate and asphalt. The asphalt concrete shall meet the specification requirements of Class E Type I or II, as listed in the SD Dept. of Transportation's Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges; 2015 edition. o Asphalt. The liquid asphalt used on the project shall be as listed below: o Class E Mat: Performance Grade PG 58-34 or PG 64-28. The asphalt cement content in the mix shall be between 6.0 and 7.0 percent. Execution: o Asphalt Mat: The contractor shall place Class E Asphalt Mat packed 2-inch mat. o Tack: Shall be applied at 0.05 Gal./SY. Construction Requirements: o Subgrade" The contractor shall cut and/or fill the roadway to the required subgrade elevation. A minimum the top six (6in) of the subgrade be compacted to 95% of Standard Proctor. Water shall be used as necessary to obtain compaction. o Asphalt Mat: o Job Mix: The contractor shall prepare and forward a copy of the job mix to be used on the project to the Engineer for review and approval prior to the beginning of work. o Pavers: The self-propelled paver shall be equipped with sufficient capacity hopper having a bottom conveyor, an activated screed or activated strikeoff assembly capable of laying specified lane widths. The paver provide an accurate, smooth, uniform textured spread and provide preliminary compaction of the mixture. o The paver shall be equipped so the height and transverse slope of the screed may be automatically controlled using a fixed or traveling string line on at least one side of the paver. o Rollers: The rollers for compacting the asphalt concrete shall be of the self-propelled type, capable of producing a smooth surface finish. o The number and weight of rollers furnished shall be sufficient to compact the mix to the required density while it is in a workable condition. o The rollers shall be equipped to prevent "pickup" on the tires or drum for uniform moistening of the drums or tires with water or water detergent solution. o Priming, Spreading, and Compacting: o If prime oil is not specified, the surface onto which the asphalt mat is to be placed shall be lightly watered prior to placement of asphalt pavement. o Continuous and uniform operations all be maintained. o Immediately after the mix has been placed and any surface irregularities adjusted, it shall be thoroughly and uniformly compacted rolling as required by the Architect. The surface shall be free of waves and any other irregularities. o The surface of the final lift shall be checked with a10 foot straightedge furnished by the Contractor. The variations in the surface from the straightedge between any two contact points shall not exceed two hundredths (0.02) feed The crown shall be checked with a 10 foot straightedge and shall be within four hundredths (0.04) feet of specified crown in any 10 foot length. o Irregularities shall be corrected while the materials is still hot. The City of Tulare reserves the right to reject any or all bids and waive all formalities in bids. The City of Tulare reserves the right to accept the bid, which in their opinion is the best responsible bid or which is deemed to be in the best interest of the City.
