The board had received two bids for the Lincoln Center project which will renovate and expand the front office and entrance area as well as complete needed upgrades to the building, the elevator and the grounds of the school. The board approved the low bid from RG Construction of Ottumwa for $1,512,111. The other bid received from Christner Construction of Ottumwa was for $1,734,598. According to principal JoEllen Swartz, the project is planned to begin in July. The board also approved a resolution ordering an election on the issuance of $13.5 million General Obligation School bonds that will be held this fall. Supporters had gathered more than 200 petition signatures in support of the election, which if they are deemed legitimate, which is anticipated, means the election will be held. The election will be asking school district residents to approve the bonds so the district can move forward with three projects, the renovation and expansion of the office/entrance area and science classrooms at the high school, the renovation of the football field with the addition of a turf surface and the renovation and upgrading of the Monroe County Sports Complex. ________________ One story addition to and partial renovation of an existing multi-story elementary school building. The bidder to whom the Contract is awarded shall commence work no later than the date set forth in a Notice to Proceed to the Contractor from the Owner or its authorized representative. To the extent permitted by law, the Owner reserves the right to waive minor irregularities and to reject any and all bids. This project is sales tax exempt. The Owner will issue an exemption certificate for the purchase or use of building materials, supplies, and equipment that will be used in the performance of the construction contract.
