Renovation of a water / sewer project in Nelson, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) and Kalesnikoff are collaborating on the Selous Creek fuel management project that is designed to reduce the risk of wildfire adjacent to the City of Nelson and the Selous Creek water intake. The main objectives of the project are to reduce wildfire risk by retaining large, healthy fire-resistant trees, while removing dense understory trees and surface fuels, as well as enhancing infrastructure protection for potential future suppression efforts. The project includes 65 ha of mechanical treatments and 13 ha of manual hand treatments. Under the direction of BC Wildfire Service, these harvested areas will either be piled and burned or prescribed burned. In order to prepare for burning the areas require 3 m fireguards on external boundaries and around retention patches within the blocks and may include some rough bunching if the areas are not suitable for prescribed burning. The RDCK and designates are seeking a Contractor with the capacity and equipment to do winch-assist fuel modification for approximately 47.6 ha. Award amount was not released for publication.
