The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has requested that existing traffic signal controllers and cabinets which are interconnected to railroad warning devices be upgraded. New controllers and cabinets with Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and additional security features are required. This work is required at First Street and Addison Avenue, as well as at St. Charles Road at Berkley. In addition, the ICC requested that the turn restrictions at First and Addison be upgraded to LED. The existing traffic controllers and cabinets which interconnect with railroad warning devices are dated and require upgrades to meet current ICC standards. These projects have secured grants from the ICC. As of June 10, 2022, this project is included in the City of Elmhurst's FY 2022-2026 Budget CIP and funding for construction allocated for 2023.
