Construction of the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) at the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus (UTSC). This will be a training facility for healthcare professionals that would help with the growing crisis of medical staffing shortages. In particular, UTSC emphasizes the urgency for addressing health needs in the eastern Greater Toronto Area. SAMIH is also intended to be an inclusive hub for healthcare providers in Scarborough. AMIH will be a collaboration between UTSC, the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. It will serve as a hub for undergraduate health education and health professional training. Scope will be approx. 10,800 sq m and 5-storeys in height. Parking is proposed as temporary surface parking with 249 spots, to the east of the site next to the Toronto Pan-Am Sports Centre building. TIMELINE: Construction is underway. Bulk excavation began January 2024. Completion is targeted July 2024 for a fall 2026 opening. Awarded trades will not be released for publication.
